The Tarrant County Land Grant collection contains the early deeds to land in Tarrant County as granted by the State of Texas. Tarrant County was established in 1849 and named after General Edward H. Tarrant, a commander for the Republic of Texas. Historical documents dated 1854-1884 are highlighted in the collection including deeds from Texas to prominent Tarrant County citizens such as John Peter Smith, J. J. Jarvis, and Middleton Tate Johnson for whom Johnson County, Texas is named.
The scanned images in the Tarrant County Land Grant Collection are made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act. (2013)
